Introduction Paragraph
Throughout the course of recent years, computerized sounds and recordings have take a large role in the music industry. In this project, we will focus on learning the development of computerized sounds and recordings and also about the history and how these things came to be. One main topic is specifically about the first mics and recording devices used to record classical music and how they compare to the modern mic. Other topics include, studio design, music making software, historical recordings, and other possible uses for the computer. Since the first microphone in 1876 and the first computer in 1946, people have been using these instruments almost on a daily basis. Today, you seldom see a musical performance without one of these instruments being used unless it's classical. However even classical music uses microphones for amplification at times, we can even see quartets like the Emerson String Quartet use mics and computer technology to record an octet piece. In the end, the goal of this research paper is to dive deeper into the affects that technology has had on classical music and also all types of music over time.
Music has been influenced my technology since a very long time ago. The creation of the instrument itself was through new technology. Since the microphone was invented in 1876, digital technology started to influence the musical world, and digital advancements have been made since then. Things such as synthesizers, auto-tune, recording studios, and electric music composing programs have shown up on media everywhere. But it all boils down to the question, "How did computerized technology influence the music industry and culture?". Was the microphone the one that started it all? What was the most important instrument in vitalizing the computer technology in the music industry?
The involvement of technology within the music industry has changed the culture to the point where computerized technology is the basis of what the music industry is built off of at this point. This all started with the microphone and it's impact on society. The invention where you could record audio and sounds being made changed how music is presented. This led to vinyl, into tape recordings, the popularization of CD's, MP3 files, and so on. All of these very well know music carriers were all started due to the microphone being invented to record sounds. One group called "New Sound Worship" compared the introduction of the microphone to humanity no longer speaking Latin and instead different languages. In that sense, the basis stays the same that we still produce music, however the way in which it is produced, changes entirely. We now set up very specific stations to record music. New Sound Worship also wrote an article with the title of "How the Microphone Changed the World", the article goes into depth about how the microphone revolutionized music notation, vocals, ensemble sizes and production quality in general. In the end, what the microphone brought to the music industry was one of the technologically largest impacts throughout music history.

The microphone provides an extraordinary amount of new opportunities to expand on audio recordings and their impact on society. Ruddick's "Microphone Technique" journal focuses on it's use in the classroom and. unlike many other sources, it shows what some of the limitations of the microphone are. The source focuses on or targets the audience that may have a low budget or isn't sponsored in some way. In other words crews from a school or when putting on a small local production. Common problems that are encountered when on a low budget with a microphone are, adequate monitoring, organization and management. The microphone has many perks because it records sounds and is more sensitive that the human ear. However there are also many negative things about that quality that are pointed out within this journal. There must be very careful preparation and setup before using the device and also the environment in which the microphone is in. These issues lead to the realm of acoustics and theater development. This source currently fails to explain how the modern microphone works because it was written in 1939, however it helps show the progress and the slow improvements that have been made in strides to offer higher quality recordings of sounds. It was previously discussed how amazing the microphone was and how it revolutionized all of computerized influence on music, however Ruddick helps us realize that it's not the easiest thing for common folk to use and take advantage of. There are a lot of inconvenient requirements in order to use the microphone and share recordings publicly.
After the invention of the microphone, society immediately looked in the direction of how to improve the quality of the sounds that were being played back to them in the recording. This led to music recording studios and specific designs for the architecture of buildings. This goal of constant improvement upon the sounds that were recorded, lead even to auto-tune and other features that can alter the actual recorded sound in a specific way. This auto-tune feature started a-lot of controversy upon the music artists and society, saying that their music is fake and somewhat not their own. However one very interesting thing that came out of this slow progression to improve sound quality, is the genre of EDM (Electronic Dance Music). This whole genre is completely based upon computer generated sounds that make up a song. The fact that people would listen to purely computerized sounds without any sort of main vocalist or and lyrics involved, shows just how much the computer has changed the musical landscape over time. The EDM genre has slowly made itself known to the general public, originally looked down upon due to an alleged lack of depth, now has taken over a majority of the top 100 pop songs in the country.
In conclusion, people throughout the world have used computers for a very long time at this point and it's applications have become much more evident in people's daily life. Not much different can be said about it's impact on the music industry. The introduction of microphones completely changed the way music is produced and played, the introduction of computer's changed the way music is shared and sold through mp3 files. The introduction of computers also brought new forms of music comprised of electronic sounds and computer generated tunes. This technological advancement even affected classical music. Quartet groups like the Mendelssohn quartet can now record octet pieces by using computer technology to record themselves multiple times over. The architecture and overall design of many preforming arts related buildings have been altered due to the introduction of the microphone, where the shape of the theater would revolve around the best placement for a microphone to pick up clear audio and sound. In the end, computerized devices and machines have changed the music industry forever and could be considered the most influential difference that was made throughout history with regard to music.
